Timberwolves bounce back with emphatic Game 2 win over Steph Curry-less Warriors

The Minnesota Timberwolves got run out of their own arena in Game 1. They came out firing in Game 2 and never trailed on their way to evening their second-round series.

The Wolves started Game 2 on a 13-0 run and never trailed in their 117-93 win to even the series. The Golden State Warriors made a brief second-half run that cut the Timberwolves' lead to seven points, but the Timberwolves quickly pulled away in a game that was never close again.

Julius Randle led the way with 24 points and 11 assists, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker broke out of his shooting slump with four three-pointers and 20 points off the bench. The Timberwolves' plus-minus leader was Jaden McDaniels, who shot 7-of-10 and menaced the Warriors on defense, logging three steals and three blocks while Golden State committed 17 turnovers.

The Timberwolves had a scary moment in the second quarter when Trayce Jackson-Davis landed on Edwards' ankle after the Wolves All-Star drove to the hoop. But Edwards returned for the second half looking as explosive as ever, finishing with 20 points and helping hold Jimmy Butler to 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting — not a lot of attempts for Golden State's top offensive option with Steph Curry injured.

For the Warriors, the good news was that Jonathan Kuminga returned from being benched most of the playoffs to score 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding five rebounds. The bad news was that Draymond Green moved closer to a suspension, picking up his fifth technical foul of the playoffs when he elbowed Naz Reid in the head after a foul. Two more flagrant fouls or two more technicals would mean Green gets suspended for a game.

The series returns to San Francisco on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET, where the Warriors will try to find more offense and the Timberwolves will try to keep the good times going. And put a lot of ice on Edwards' ankle.
