Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides telling update on Patrick Mahomes' injury

Patrick Mahomes was a surprise pop-up on the injury report this week after the quarterback appeared fully healthy in the Kansas City Chiefs' 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.  Mahomes was a full participant in all three practices this week, but he was placed on the injury report for having an issue with his right wrist, which is on his throwing hand.

During his news conference on Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided context for Mahomes' injury. Reid gave a telling remark, telling reporters Mahomes was so unbothered by the issue that the quarterback had no idea on what play the injury occurred.

"Yeah, he couldn't even tell you what play was it," Reid said." But it swole up a little bit, and overnight they got it down. So he practiced the whole week. We good."

The Chiefs need Mahomes healthy before they take on the New York Giants on "Sunday Night Football," looking to win their first game of the season. The Giants also enter the contest winless.

Mahomes has pedestrian numbers through two games, throwing for 445 yards, two touchdowns and one interception this season. He struggled against the Eagles defense. Philadelphia limited the three-time Super Bowl champion to 187 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 2.

Mahomes' numbers should look better against a Giants team that is in the midst of serious turmoil. New York surrendered 361 passing yards and two touchdowns to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 2.
