Quinn Hughes makes immediate impact, scores goal in debut with Wild

The Minnesota Wild's trade for superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes on Friday was a massive move for the franchise.

It not only added one of the league's best players to an already strong roster, but it also sent a big message to the rest of the NHL that they see themselves as Stanley Cup contenders.

Hughes made his debut with the Wild on Sunday night and wasted no time making an impact in their 6-2 win over the Boston Bruins.

Hughes played a team-high 26 minutes in the win and began contributing right away with his third goal of the season.

That is just a quick glimpse of the skating, speed, skill and offense that Hughes provides, and Minnesota fans should get used to watching it. The rest of the Western Conference should also be terrified by it.

The big thing that has always held the Wild back when it comes to being a legitimate contender is that even when they have been good, they have never really had impact, superstar-level players. Forward Kirill Kaprizov has recently become one for them.

Now, Hughes gives them a second superstar, and they are both in the prime of their careers. Anytime you have two superstar players who are among the best at their position, combined with the type of goaltending the Wild have with Filip Gustavsson and rookie Jesper Wallstedt, you are always going to have a chance to contend.

Hughes is one of the most electrifying defenseman in the NHL and has already won a Norris Trophy in his career. He might win another (and potentially more) before he retires. Even more importantly, he might help the Wild become a serious championship-contending team.
