The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are preparing to face one another in a Super Bowl matchup that very few people saw coming, but one player's sister banked on it.
Neither the Patriots nor the Seahawks had favorable odds to reach the Super Bowl at the start of the season. That makes sense given that both teams missed the playoffs a year ago, with New England finishing 4-13. Most people thought it would be a rebuilding year in head coach Mike Vrabel's first season, but the Patriots instead made a complete turnaround.
Patriots fullback Jack Westover says his sister was one of the few who believed both the Patriots and Seahawks had a chance to make a deep playoff run. She was even willing to put some money on it.
In a recent interview with KJR 93.3 FM in Seattle, Westover revealed that his sister made a bet before the 2025 season started that the Patriots and Seahawks would make it to Super Bowl LX. Westover says the bet, which was placed in training camp, was a $5 wager with a return of $18,000. Westover joked that his sister is expecting her second child, so the improbable payday was perfectly timed.
"She has her second baby on the way, so she's happy about that," Westover said, via ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Westover is in his second season with the Patriots, but he has strong ties to Seattle. He originally signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in May 2024, though he was cut before the regular season. He then signed with New England's practice squad midway through the 2024 season and made the 53-man roster this year.
A native of Snoqualmie, Wash., Westover played at the University of Washington from 2018-23. Westover is known primarily for his blocking ability. He played in all 17 games for the Patriots this season and had just one catch for zero yards. He also caught an eight-yard pass during New England's 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
