The New York Giants' plans for their coaching staff have changed over the past couple of days.
Todd Monken taking the Cleveland Browns job probably threw a wrench into John Harbaugh's plans for the offensive staff, as he's brought several former Baltimore Ravens assistant coaches with him to Cleveland.
As such, Harbaugh had to pivot and look outside of his coaching tree to fill the vacant offensive coordinator position.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants brought in former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury to discuss the job.
"Sources: The Giants interviewed former Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury virtually on Saturday for their open OC position," Schultz wrote on X. "Kingsbury is one of several candidates the Giants have been intrigued by to pair with QB Jaxson Dart, under new HC John Harbaugh."
The idea of pairing Kingsbury with Jaxson Dart is certainly enticing. The former Texas Tech head coach runs a dynamic, college-style offense that thrives on athletic, dual-threat quarterbacks.
While the Washington Commanders struggled to keep the foot on the gas this season, plenty of that had to do with injuries, especially to Jayden Daniels.
Dart's play was far less impressive after Brian Daboll left the team, but his numbers remained promising.
Per Football Reference, he finished the campaign with 2,272 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and five picks while completing 63.7 percent of his passes. He also had 86 carries for 487 yards and nine scores.
On a negative note, he took 35 sacks and way too many hits, and that will be a concern for the foreseeable future.
Still, Kingsbury looks like a tailor-made fit for Dart's style of play. And, given the current coaching landscape, he might be the most qualified offensive coordinator candidate remaining.
