Stars acquire Jeremie Poirier from Flames for Gavin White

The Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames swapped depth defenseman on Monday, with the Stars acquiring Jeremie Poirier from the Flames in exchange for Gavin White.

Poirier will immediately be assigned to Dallas’ AHL affiliate Texas Stars, and White is likewise expected to join Calgary’s AHL affiliate Calgary Wranglers. Both players are 23 years of age and have yet to play in the NHL.

Calgary selected Poirier in the third round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. After finishing his junior career with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs, he joined the the Wranglers for the 2022-23 season. He flashed offensive upside in that first professional season, scoring nine goals and adding 32 assists for 41 points in 69 games.

In the 2023-24 season, Poirier only played 23 games due to a skate laceration injury, and he managed to put up three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. He bounced back well 2024-25, notching five goals and 37 assists for 42 points in 71 games.

This season, however, the Valleyfield, Quebec native has struggled with just a goal and five assists for six points in 35 games.

White was Dallas’ fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. His offensive production from the back end made him an intriguing prospect coming into the draft. In the 2021-22 season with the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, White had 10 goals and 46 assists for 56 points in 66 games.

Since turning pro, White has yet to fulfill that offensive promise. In the 2023-24 season, his first with Texas, he registered just 11 assists in 49 games. Last season, the Brockville, Ontario native had two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 46 games for Texas, while also recording a goal in a three-game stint with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.

This season, White has three goals and two assists for five points in 23 AHL games.
