Pit road penalties at Bristol Motor Speedway can be a death sentence. Fortunately for Tyler Reddick, an early speeding penalty in Sunday's Food City 500 didn't take him out of contention.
Reddick, who started second on Sunday, was forced to claw his way back through the pack after the penalty. For a driver and organization in 23XI Racing still looking to improve on short tracks, that was no small task.
But Reddick was up to the challenge. He eventually finished fourth and was even in contention for the win before the race's final caution, briefly racing eventual race winner Ty Gibbs for the lead.
"It feels really good," Reddick told Fox Sports of Sunday's result. "It was a really good bounce back. We had to fight for it all day long. We had more speed this time around. It was a very physical day inside the race car."
Reddick, a winner of four of the first eight races of 2026, holds a 62-point lead over Ryan Blaney going into the ninth race of the season at Kansas on April 19.
Alongside Gibbs and Bristol runner-up Ryan Blaney, Reddick is one of three drivers with six top-10 finishes this season and the only driver besides Gibbs with five top fives.
