Stephen Curry puts pressure on Warriors front office with cryptic comments

The Golden State Warriors’ late-season playoff push ended abruptly with a 111-96 road loss to the Phoenix Suns.

They couldn’t keep the momentum going after taking down the Los Angeles Clippers, and Stephen Curry looked particularly banged up and sluggish.

Curry tried to will his team into the playoffs after missing roughly half of the season with a knee injury, but to no avail. Even so, he can clearly perform at a superlative level, and his impending contract extension will be a talking point this offseason.

When asked about that, however, Curry didn’t just want to think about himself. Instead, he may have put pressure on the front office to make some moves.

Steph Curry predicts busy offseason for the Warriors

“For sure, but none of those conversations have happened,” Curry said, per Brett Siegel. “It will be a busy offseason for the Warriors.”

While he didn’t say anything specifically, he’s pretty much hinting at either a major roster overhaul or pursuing a big-name player — maybe even both.

The Warriors have been tangled up in trade rumors for LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant over the past two years or so.

Durant seems unlikely to be available, but James will be a free agent, and Antetokounmpo re-ignited trade rumors after another disappointing campaign in Milwaukee.

Curry still has one year left in his contract. He’s slated to make $62.6 million in the 2026-27 campaign, and there should be no doubt that the Warriors will look to keep him in town for as long as he wants to play.

Also, he's more than likely to spend his entire career in the Bay Area.

That said, the team must do something to appease him after years of postseason shortcomings, and this supporting cast clearly isn't good enough to help him make one final championship run. He'll never say it out loud, but his comments were quite telling.
