New Fever player reveals harsh reality of WNBA life before Indiana move

The Indiana Fever had a productive offseason. They have made multiple signings to boost their title hopes in the upcoming 2026 WNBA season.

The Fever are looking to build on their franchise-best season last year. Indiana finished with a 24-20 record in 2025, and they also won the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title. Unfortunately, they lost to the eventual WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in the WNBA playoffs semifinals.

During the offseason, Indiana re-signed key players from the previous year, while also adding new pieces. One of their signings was six-year veteran Tyasha Harris. The seventh overall pick of the 2020 WNBA Draft was with the Connecticut Sun for two seasons. Harris also played for the Dallas Wings for four years.

Ty Harris made WNBA admission prior to her Indiana Fever move

Harris won the 2017 NCAA Championship with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. She averaged 6.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in her six-year WNBA career. Aside from Harris’ WNBA teams, she also spent some time overseas. Harris played for clubs in Turkey, Russia and China.

Harris had her career-best season with Connecticut in 2024. She averaged 10.5 points and three assists in 28.8 minutes per game.

During a pre-season interview, Harris talked about what she’s liking about the Fever so far.

“When I first came in here, I was like this is so different,” Harris said. “So professional, everything to our liking.”

Harris said she didn’t have to spend her own money on her food.

“I mean, the food,” she added. “Breakfast, lunch — perfect! I don’t have to go out and use my money to get some food.”

Harris has been around quite a bit. She spoke about the harsh reality of life in the WNBA, where she had to go out of pocket just to buy her own food. Things are much different now that she’s in Indiana, and Harris is clearly welcoming the change.

This will be her third WNBA team, and seventh professional team overall. Her move to Indiana bolsters the point guard position for the Fever.

Unfortunately, Fever fans will have to wait a while before seeing her in action. Harris did not play against the New York Liberty on Saturday. She sat out Indiana’s 109-91 preseason blowout win.
