The nature of racing in the draft at Talladega Superspeedway is that any driver who starts a race there has the potential to win.
Yet, just like every other race on the NASCAR calendar, only one driver emerges victorious. On Sunday at Talladega, that driver was Carson Hocevar.
Still, the top 10 was littered with drivers who desperately needed a win and, at the least, came away with a solid top-10 finish. That's not a surprising outcome given Talladega's chaotic nature, but one that was aided by a massive Lap 115 pile-up that involved 26 drivers.
Chief among them was Alex Bowman, who is last (36th) in the Cup Series standings after missing four races due to vertigo. In his five starts before Sunday, he was yet to finish inside the top 10 this year.
That changed on Sunday, as Bowman provided Hocevar the winning push and came home third himself, finally giving the No. 48 momentum as they look to make a push towards the Chase.
Chris Buescher finished runner-up to Hocevar, moving up to seventh in the Cup Series standings. He's the highest driver in Cup Series points not out of the Hendrick, Joe Gibbs Racing or Penske stable.
Front Row Motorsports' Zane Smith finished fifth, earning his first top-five finish of the year. He also moved up to 20th in the standings and was one of two Front Row Motorsports drivers to finish inside the top-10 alongside ninth-place finisher Noah Gragson.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished sixth, his first top 10 since the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 15. Ross Chastain earned his first top 10 since Atlanta on Feb. 3 with a seventh-place finish, while Austin Cindric finished eighth and is now the last driver in the provisional 16-driver Chase field.
Like Bowman, 10th-place finisher Kyle Busch entered Sunday looking for his first top 10 of 2026. Busch is in the midst of a now 103-race winless streak, but at least has some semblance of momentum on his side.
All of the aforementioned drivers can walk away from Talladega somewhat happy, but only Hocevar can truly celebrate the weekend fully.
