Chiefs get even more bad news about Rashee Rice

When it rains, it pours for Rashee Rice and the Kansas City Chiefs. The star wide receiver is serving 30 days of jail time after violating his probation, and that's not even half of the story.

Rice is also recovering from knee clean-up surgery that was expected to sideline him for two months, but his recovery time could be a little longer, since he won't have access to the medical resources and facilities he would usually have.

Moreover, even if he's fully healthy for the start of the season, he may not be able to suit up right away.

According to CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones, the league could suspend him as a "repeat offender,' given that he already faced a 5-game suspension over his legal situation last year.

Chiefs' Rashee Rice could be suspended again

“The league has relaxed its prohibitions on marijuana in recent years. But the NFL’s personal conduct policy gives it broad latitude, and any misstep by someone who served a multi-game suspension within the past year could logically make them a candidate for repeat-offender status,” Jones wrote.

Rice is entering the final year of his rookie contract and was once a major candidate to get a lucrative contract extension.

Now, the Chiefs might want to think twice and may not want to keep him around for much longer. He's been either hurt or suspended for most of his career, and he cannot be trusted to stay on the field.

To add insult to injury, the Chiefs won't have many options to address their wide receiver situation at this point in the offseason.

Tyreek Hill's potential return has been floated as a possibility for months, but given his injury status and that he's also been tangled up in some scandals off the field, Andy Reid's team might not be interested in more drama right now.
