The Dallas Cowboys snagged one of the highest-profile players in the 2026 NFL draft when they selected Ohio State safety Caleb Downs with the No. 11 overall pick.
Now, it's time for Downs to get acclimated to his new home and start working with Cowboys players, such as franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.
Ahead of the new season, Prescott is speaking out about his first impressions of Downs. Not surprisingly, they're good.
Speaking with the Dallas Morning News on Sunday, Prescott praised the demeanor of Downs. He also said that the new player is already bringing something unique to the team.
"How professional he is, how calm he is; quiet, yet confident," Prescott said. "It's contagious. You feel it. He's a man who's sure of who he is."
He added: "When you are that way in this business, you know you can speak up, speak out. You can say things you believe and age doesn't really matter, because you know you're doing the right thing."
Dallas starts voluntary OTAs on Monday, which means more on-field drills but still no contact. It will give Downs more chances to get to know his teammates and wow them.
"He's a guy that's a leader just by the way that he carries himself and the way he approaches it," Prescott added. "I know he's leading that rookie class, but he understands the way that the locker room goes and what it means to earn veterans' trust and to get their respect. He's a humble kid that's coming in there each and every day, quiet and grinding."
The Cowboys have made a plethora of good moves this offseason, from the Downs draft pick to signing cornerback Cobie Durant to a one-year, $4 million deal. For a team that's not known for being active in the offseason, it's rewriting what Jerry Jones and the franchise does during the quiet period in the NFL.
