A.J. Brown trade to Patriots leaves Chiefs with one tough decision to make

Now that the saga is finally over and A.J. Brown has officially been traded, the rest of the dominoes might finally fall.

As expected, the New England Patriots have acquired Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver Brown after weeks of speculation.

That leaves teams needing help at wide receiver with fewer options, and with the free agent market drying up, they must act fast.

That's why, with all the uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice's scandal off the field and their need for another weapon, the Kansas City Chiefs are running out of time.

The Chiefs must sign Stefon Diggs or Deebo Samuel

The Chiefs can't roll into next season hoping that Rice will be healthy and eligible to play. They can't rely on Xavier Worthy, either, given how unimpressive he's been in two years in the league.

As such, and with Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster gone, they should be all over Deebo Samuel or Stefon Diggs.

The Chiefs brought back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to bring their offense back to life, but there's only so much he can do with these weapons.

Granted, adding Kenneth Walker III to the mix should give them their first 1,000-yard rusher since rookie Kareem Hunt, but Patrick Mahomes also needs help.

Travis Kelce isn't who he used to be, and he'll likely be in his final year before riding into the sunset.

Diggs and Samuel are both entering the backend of their primes and come with some question marks, but beggars can't be choosers, and the Chiefs just have to make a move if they're serious about returning to playoff contention.

The Chiefs have roughly $12.4 million in available cap space, according to OverTheCap, so the financial situation isn't ideal. That said, teams find ways to get around the cap all the time, and with few options left, Samuel and Diggs would likely take a discount to play for Andy Reid and Mahomes.
