A recent report revealed that some NFL executives view San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk as "untradeable right now because of the knee issue, the contract and his lack of communication with the [49ers] at times."
The 49ers possibly finding a buyer for Aiyuk this summer may have just become more difficult.
According to Edward Lewis of the California Post, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that a warrant for Aiyuk’s arrest has been issued in Northern California. The warrant is related to a video that Aiyuk posted to his YouTube page in December showing him driving over 100 mph in what ESPN's Nick Wagoner mentioned was a 40-mph zone.
Aiyuk later shared an apology via social media.
"Sorry ya'll, my car content won't come with speeding anymore," he wrote in a YouTube post. "Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn't want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones! My apologies."
Following a lengthy contract standoff that lasted through the summer of 2024, Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120M extension to stay with the 49ers. Since that time, he has appeared in just seven regular-season games.
In the fall of 2024, Aiyuk suffered season-ending tears to his ACL and MCL. This past December, the 49ers placed him on the reserve/left squad list, where he stayed through the club's postseason run. In April of this year, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed that teams potentially interested in acquiring Aiyuk were having "a hard time" contacting him.
Throughout the offseason, stories have linked Aiyuk with the Washington Commanders. However, some have suggested that Washington could instead sign free-agent receiver Stefon Diggs before the 49ers and Aiyuk part ways.
Wagoner and others have noted that Aiyuk has a $24.935M option bonus due on Sept. 1. San Francisco is expected to cut Aiyuk before that date, and it's unknown if this latest development will cause the Commanders or other receiver-needy teams to look elsewhere for help at the position before Week 1 of the upcoming campaign arrives.
