Russell Wilson removes all doubt regarding his career future

Russell Wilson is moving on to a new chapter of his football life.

After weeks of speculation, Wilson made it official on Wednesday evening and announced his retirement from the NFL. Along with his retirement, he also confirmed that he is, in fact, joining CBS Sports and "NFL Today."

He made the announcement in a three-minute video that he posted to his social media accounts, thanking the NFL and football for what it gave him during his 14-year career.

Here is Wilson's message and video.

Wilson spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants during his career, throwing for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns. He also rushed for an additional 5,568 yards and 31 touchdowns, making him one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks of his era (and all-time).

Along with two trips to the Super Bowl and one Super Bowl win, it is enough to put him in a discussion for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

While there was some interest from the New York Jets this offseason, Wilson decided it was time to give up on his playing days and get into media.

It's probably the best solution for him.

He showed during the 2025 season with the Giants that he is a fraction of the player he was at his peak, ultimately losing his starting job to first-round pick Jaxson Dart. Now he gets to make significant money, still be involved with football and not have to take the beating that comes from being an NFL quarterback.
