Giants seemingly have made final Kayvon Thibodeaux decision amid trade rumors

While it once seemed to be a lock that the New York Giants would trade pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux either before or during the 2026 NFL Draft, Thibodeaux remained with the club through the start of the league's summer break.

For a piece published on Wednesday, Giants reporter Jordan Raanan of ESPN suggested that it's unlikely that Thibodeaux's situation will change anytime soon.

"Hasn't been any talk" of Giants making this Kayvon Thibodeaux move

"Thibodeaux will play the 2026 season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract for $14.751M," Raanan shared. "He will do it as the Giants' third edge-rusher behind Brian Burns and Abdul Carter. It appears the Giants are going to make Thibodeaux play it out. There hasn't been any talk of an extension."

One report from earlier in June indicated that the Giants wanted a third-round draft pick from interested teams for Thibodeaux's services before and during this year's player selection process. Once no club matched that asking price, first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh decided that Thibodeaux would stay put until further notice.

During springtime workouts, Harbaugh said that he expected Thibodeaux is "going to play really well" for the Giants through at least the start of the season. Despite such comments, some have continued to link Thibodeaux with the New England Patriots and other clubs that have a need at the position.

Kayvon Thibodeaux eager to prove his worth to Giants, other teams

"He knows it's a big season for him after two injury-plagued years," Raanan added about Thibodeaux. "Thibodeaux has missed 12 games over the past two seasons and compiled just 8.0 sacks. This year will determine whether he can get the big long-term deal he desires."

Harbaugh allegedly is "not interested in a rebuild" after taking over as the Giants' true head of football operations this past winter. His actions since accepting the job would indicate that is the case. However, Harbaugh theoretically could make Thibodeaux and other players who aren't locked down via multiyear deals available to advertised contenders if the Giants lose more than they win before the in-season trade deadline arrives in November.
