Paul Goldschmidt makes unique history in Yankees' win over Phillies

Every win counts the same no matter the score, but the final score of the New York Yankees' Friday win made some history as well as improving the team's record to 58-45.

Coming off winning a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Yankees beat the Phillies as they opened up a three-game set with the other team from Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. And offensively speaking, the Yankees have only one player to thank.

Paul Goldschmidt's solo shot in the top of the fourth inning ended up being the only run scored by either team.

Paul Goldschmidt made unique history in the Yankees' 1-0 win

At 38 years and 317 days, Goldschmidt is now the oldest Yankee to homer in a 1-0 win.

He's also the second-oldest player to do so in the last 10 years, only behind Albert Pujols, who did it while back with the St. Louis Cardinals and connected one of the final home runs of his career during his last season on August 22, 2022.

Still productive, Goldschmidt has put together a solid career

Goldschmidt's latest game-winning home run was his 16th of 2026. In addition to his home run total, he has 43 RBIs, 35 runs scored, 10 doubles and a slash line of .255/.312/.486 in 74 games and 259 at-bats.

Career-wise, in the middle of his 16th MLB season, Goldschmidt, a seven-time All-Star and the 2022 National League MVP, owns 388 home runs, 1,275 RBIs and 1,315 runs to go along with 2,256 hits, 487 doubles and a .287 batting average overall from time spent with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cardinals and now in his second year with the Yankees.
