Former Cowboys QB Tony Romo arrested on suspicion of OWI

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested Thursday on suspicion of operating while intoxicated after deputies stopped him on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee, Wis.

Romo was traveling south across the high-rise bridge at the time.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Romo performed poorly during field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody, booked for a first-offense OWI and released later that night.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 21.

No additional details about what led deputies to pull Romo over were immediately available. Romo and CBS had also not issued public statements when news of the arrest surfaced Friday.

The 46-year-old spent his entire NFL career with Dallas and made four Pro Bowls before retiring after the 2016 season. His transition into broadcasting happened almost immediately.

Romo joined CBS Sports in 2017 and quickly moved into the network’s top NFL booth alongside Jim Nantz. He remains one of the league’s highest-profile television analysts with the 2026 regular season less than two months away.
