Home run king: Salvador Perez passes Hall of Famer George Brett on Royals' all-time list

Slide over, George Brett, there's a new Kansas City Royals all-time leader for home runs, and his name is Salvador Perez.

Salvador Perez hits home run No. 318

In the top of the seventh inning of Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers, Perez launched what wasn't only a game-tying home run, but also a record-setting one.

It was home run No. 318 of Perez's career, and it broke a tie with the aforementioned Brett for the most in Royals franchise history.

Perez tied Brett with home run No. 317 on Wednesday. Three days later, he set the record at, fittingly enough, the same ballpark where he hit his first MLB home run in 2011.

Salvador Perez has put together a Hall of Fame career

Perez is the eighth catcher all-time to eclipse 300 home runs and is one of just his many accomplishments. Perez has collected all of the following achievements over his 15-year career:

Nine-time All Star
Five-time Gold Glove
Five-time Silver Slugger
2015 World Series MVP
2024 Roberto Clemente Award Winner

All those accomplishments, along with being a World Series champion, have certainly given Perez a case to be in the Hall of Fame when that time comes.

Could next year be the final year for Salvador Perez?

Perez has one year remaining on his contract, and at 36 years old, he may not play much past that. That gives him, give-or-take, 220 games remaining in his MLB career.

It will be interesting to see just how much more Perez can produce and how many more home runs he can add to his franchise-record total.
