Analyst reveals the Cowboys' offseason move that may hold the key to their success

The Dallas Cowboys had a really active offseason, which isn't always the case for Jerry Jones and company. So, it certainly wasn't boring when it came to Cowboys news this offseason.

Some of the bigger moves were drafting safety Caleb Downs in the first round, trading for edge-rusher Rashan Gary and inking safety Jalen Thompson.

But, the Cowboys' best offseason move was a change they made to their coaching staff that could prove to be a huge win for them.

Cowboys coaching hire was their best move, NFL analyst says

In an article out on Friday, Bucky Brooks of the NFL's official website names the Cowboys' hiring of Christian Parker as defensive coordinator as the biggest offseason move in the entire NFC East. In it, he notes that the Cowboys have a "spectacular offense" but that they won't ever get a championship if their defense doesn't improve. It's a fair point.

"So, after hiring Parker from the Eagles, Dallas underwent a significant defensive makeover this offseason," Brooks says in the piece. He adds that hiring Parker "will stress fundamentals and focus on eliminating some of the missed assignments and blown coverages that led to the unit's demise in 2025."

He adds, "It might take some time for the new defensive coordinator to adjust to his role and personnel, but eventually, the Cowboys' improved talent and Parker's coaching should help make America's Team a formidable foe this season."

He didn't make the headlines of the Gary trade. But, Parker may hold the key to the Cowboys' success.
