Jackson Koivun holds off Scottie Scheffler for first PGA win

PGA rookie Jackson Koivun won his first tour event on Sunday, holding off Scottie Scheffler to win the 3M Open by three strokes.

Koivun shot 5-under in the final round to secure the win, and by doing so secured a rather historic win for himself and the tournament.

With his 66, 5-under on Sunday, Koivun finished the tournament a whopping 25-under with a 259 total, setting a new tournament record.

His multiple-stroke win was also a historic, as he becomes the youngest American to win any PGA event by multiple strokes since 20-year-old Ralph Guldahl at the Arizona Open by five shots in 1932.

Koivun won the 3M Open at 21 years old.

For Scheffler, it is his fourth-runner up of the season as he is still searching for his second win.

His only win this season came in his first start at the American Express Open.

For Koivun, this week's tournament was only his fourth start of the season, and just the third time he made the cut.

Before the 3M Open, he posted a 23rd-place finish at the U.S. Open, missed the cut at the John Deere Classic and finished tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship.

Now he has his first win, and it earned him over $1.5 million.

It was also a wildly impressive showing. He never shot higher than 68 in any of the four rounds, and posted a 61 in the third round to really give himself a big lead and some cushion going into Sunday. He ended up playing a nearly flawless, even if safe, round to secure the win, delivering at least a par on all 18 holes, including five birdies.
