San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan’s Week 1 status has been revealed after he suffered serious injuries in a car accident 12 days ago.

49ers president John Lynch said he anticipates that Shanahan will be able to coach the team’s Week 1 game in Melbourne without any difficulty. Lynch said that doctors are optimistic about his recovery timeline and that Shanahan will be good to go “long before that.”

“That’s not what we’re anticipating. That’s not what I’ve heard from the doctors,” Lynch said of the possibility of Shanahan missing regular season games. “But just like we talked about with players, the timeline kind of takes care of itself. He’s got to meet certain markers. But I think the expectation is that long before that he’ll be better.”

Shanahan will be taking on reduced duties for the start of training camp after he suffered significant injuries in an offseason car accident. His list of injuries included several broken bones, 40 stitches, and a severe concussion.

Ironically, Shanahan was really not looking forward to playing that game in Melbourne. Now he probably cannot wait to be able to coach it.
