Notre Dame beats out Oregon, Texas A&M for five-star EDGE Darieon Prescott

Prescott will go down as a massive 2028 recruiting win for Freeman and the Irish. According to the 247Sports Composite, the five-star is ranked as the No. 5 EDGE in the country and the No. 18 recruit overall.

He finished his sophomore season at Bolingbrook High School with 65 tackles (14 tackles for loss), 26 pressures, five sacks, eight passes broken up, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while also blocking two kicks.

Again, this was his sophomore season in high school, so it stands to reason that Prescott will get even better in 2026 and 2027.

It was Freeman and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge who led the way for Prescott.

“Again my favorite things about Notre Dame overall is just the way Marcus Freeman and Coach P carry themselves. Same with the d-line. It truly feels like a family," Prescott said.

Notre Dame's 2028 class has just three players committed so far, but even with that in mind, it's a class that's ranked No. 4 in the nation.

This is a group that will only continue to add more talent, and Prescott will be the centerpiece of the class. He'll also be a peer-recruiter.

“Something my coach always told me and my team to do is set the standard and as me committing early in setting the standard for my fellow 2028 class, not trying to pressure but just show if it feels right and you follow your heart you should take that leap," Prescott explained.
