The Indianapolis Colts invested heavily in the offense this offseason by signing quarterback Daniel Jones to a two-year, $88 million deal and giving wide receiver Alec Pierce a four-year contract worth $114 million.

However, the Colts have already placed Pierce on the Physically Unable to Perform list just weeks before the first preseason game.

Pierce had surgery on his left ankle in March, and while there were no details of why he is on the list, it isn’t a great sign.

The Colts do have time to bring Pierce off the PUP list before the season begins. If he is on the list by the time the roster is down to 53, he will be placed on IR and be forced to miss the first four games of the season.

Pierce was expected to have a major role once again, especially after Michael Pittman Jr. was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2025, Pierce had career-highs across the board, catching 47 passes for 1,003 yards and 6 touchdowns, so he will be worth monitoring as the Colts go through the preseason.

The Colts’ first preseason game is on August 13 against the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.
