Yankees rookie proves he can handle New York pressure with dazzling debut

The defensive gem had Yankees analyst Paul O'Neill heaping praise, noting, "This is a double play you haven't seen turned in the Yankee infield all year."

However, it was in the bottom of the fifth where Lombard added a highlight that will be a talking point when discussing New York's offensive potential for the rest of this season and beyond.

Batting eighth in the lineup and facing Cardinals starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins, Lombard collected his first hit by taking an 0-2 pitch deep to left field for a home run.

While Lombard kept his cool while running the bases, it was clear his family was celebrating. That includes his father, George Lombard Sr., who played for six MLB seasons and currently serves as the bench coach for the Detroit Tigers.

Lombard finished the game 1-for-2, also getting on base with a walk as part of New York's 2-0 victory.

While George was succeeding in New York, his brother, Jacob, was also having a debut to remember in Florida.

Playing his first game for the Low-A Jupiter Hammerheads after being selected by the Miami Marlins with the 14th overall pick in this year's draft, Jacob hit a towering home run in the third inning for his first career round-tripper.

It was quite a night on all levels for the Lombard family, including what could be the beginning of new era at shortstop for the Yankees.
