Royals' Jac Caglianone joins exclusive company with stellar performance

The Kansas City Royals have been among the worst teams in MLB this season.

On Saturday night, though, their star first baseman Jac Caglianone put on a performance against the Chicago Cubs that just a few players in franchise history have been able to replicate.

Jac Caglianone single-handedly beat the Cubs

In Saturday's 6-3 win over Chicago, Caglianone finished the game 4-for-4 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI.

Caglianone became just the seventh player in franchise history to collect four extra-base hits in a game and the first since Kendrys Morales did so in 2015.

Jac Caglianone has been stellar in the second half of the season

Caglianone got off to a slow start to his season, but in the second half, he's been much better. He's homered now seven times since the All-Star Break, the most of any player that competed in the Home Run Derby.

All around, Caglianone is slashing .428/.428/.893 with four doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in the month of August. That is easily among the highest in the league.

Kansas City has to be pleased with their future

Caglianone alongside superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is an excellent duo for the Royals not only this season but for many to come.

If Caglianone continues to be a highly productive player, a long-term extension could soon begin to be discussed and possibly take place.
