Blue Jays make Vladimir Guerrero Jr. announcement in midst of home run chase

The Toronto Blue Jays aren't out of the hunt for an AL wild-card spot yet.

A win over the New York Yankees on Friday night moved Toronto just a game out of a playoff spot. In that win, though, came an injury to star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero is in the midst of trying to hit his first home run at the Rogers Centre this season, but that will now have to wait just a bit longer.

Guerrero took a knee to the head during a wacky play in Friday's game and that has landed him on the seven-day concussion injured list.

Outfielder Daz Cameron has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Guerrero on the 26-man roster.

With the injury, Guerrero will now miss at least two home games, possibly more if he isn't ready after the seven-day period.

After Sunday, the Blue Jays will have just 15 home games remaining this season. In the heat of a playoff push, Guerrero will likely get somewhere around 60 plate appearances over those final 15 home games if he is healthy and available.

Toronto fans are itching for the moment that their star launches one into the seats in a regular season game for the first time since Aug. 14, 2025.
