Rangers' Cal Quantrill turning heads with bounce-back season

Right-handed starting pitcher Cal Quantrill is having a stellar bounce-back season and has continued to set the tone on the mound for the Texas Rangers by stabilizing the back end of the rotation.

He is boasting a much-improved 2.90 ERA compared to his poor 4-12 record and inflated 6.04 ERA across 26 games with both the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves in 2025.

Overall this season, the 31-year-old owns a 6-4 record with a 1.14 WHIP and 60 strikeouts. Quantrill's remarkable resurgence has allowed him to rebound from his 2025 struggles, and following his transition out of his swingman role, he has found his dominance in the rotation, which has made him a noteworthy success story this season.

Additionally, in his last two starts, he's combined for 11 strikeouts and no walks and has only given up two earned runs in August, showcasing how the Rangers' underrated veteran signing in 2025 has paid off.

Cal Quantrill is doing everything right for the Rangers

Inevitably, Quantrill's recent success has been hard to ignore as he extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings after hurling six shutout innings that led to a 5-3 victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

Following his successful performance against the Angels, he talked about how he believes he can be a crucial part of the team's postseason push. Quantrill said, "I definitely want to be a positive part of the [playoff] push."

He's become a vital part of the rotation as he's also recorded five consecutive starts with only giving up one run or less. Across his last four starts, Quantrill has held an impressive 0.75 ERA.

On Aug.18, he delivered seven scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals, adding to his durability. Quantrill's outing illustrated how he has the capability to be stretched out even further.

But he's without question been the Rangers' most consistent starter this season alongside Jacob deGrom. Quantrill's recent surge in his performance has helped carve out his role as a valuable weapon in the Rangers' rotation.
