Caitlin Clark and Fever set WNBA viewership record, tie NBA average

Caitlin Clark continues to drive massive WNBA audiences across virtually every media platform. There's no sense of that stopping anytime soon, either.

The latest record came on Amazon Prime Video, where the Aug. 20 Indiana Fever against Dallas Wings game averaged 1.07 million viewers, according to Sports Media Watch, making it the most-watched WNBA game ever measured on Prime Video. It also matched the average audience for NBA games on Prime Video last season, although this actually is the first year Nielsen has measured WNBA games on the platform.

Caitlin Clark continues to drive record-breaking audiences

This is nothing new, of course. Clark and the Fever have also set major viewership records across other networks.

Just looking at this season, Fever-Aces drew 2.64 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, according to NBC Sports. Fever-Dream reached 2.58 million on ESPN, and Fever-Liberty also averaged 2.58 million on CBS, setting records for those platforms. Fever-Wings pulled in 1.62 million on ION, which turned out to be a network record, while Fever-Valkyries reached 1.14 million on USA Network, which was also a WNBA record.

The only exception was ABC, where Fever-Sky drew 2.6 million viewers. That's a lot and was the network's biggest WNBA audience this year, but just short of last season's 2.70 million.

Nielsen's shift to its Big Data measurement system has also boosted sports viewership numbers, but the larger trend is hard to miss. It's easy to see that Clark and other Fever stars, such as Sophie Cunningham, are driving an extraordinary amount of attention to the WNBA, with the Fever consistently producing some of the league's biggest audiences.
