Odell Beckham Jr. targeting Super Bowl, reunion with old number amid Giants reunion

On Monday, Odell Beckham Jr. completed an official NFL media obligation for the first time since the veteran wide receiver learned over the weekend that he made the New York Giants' initial 53-man roster.

Beckham first played for the four-time Super Bowl champions from when the Giants drafted him in 2014 up until they traded him to the Cleveland Browns in March 2019. In his return to Big Blue, he is looking to help first-year head coach John Harbaugh guide the franchise to where it hasn't been since February 2012.

"God had a plan for me," Beckham said about making the Giants roster, per John Flanigan of SNY. "The last two years I’ve talked about this journey I’ve been on, the growth, the humility, and just walking through life, there have been some hardships, feeling like it just wasn’t where I wanted to be. To be here, walking into practice seeing the banners, I want to bring one here -- that was the message to the group -- it’s one thing to get here; it's an honor and a privilege. Now it’s about taking that next step and finding ways to level up."

Beckham became a fan favorite during his first stint with the Giants as he earned three Pro Bowl nods and produced numerous highlight-reel moments. However, he also only played in one playoff game with the NFC East club, a contest forever associated with an infamous "boat trip" photo and with Beckham committing costly drops in a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Beckham turns 34 years old this coming November, has a lengthy injury history and hasn't played in a regular-season game since he was with the Miami Dolphins in December 2024. Nevertheless, he believes he can be more than a feel-good story this coming fall. 

"I feel confident in my ability, and whatever it is that I need to provide, I'm looking to do that and more," Beckham said, per the Giants' website. "I've never shied away from competition or anything like that. So, I feel that I can produce. I know that's what I want to do and now it's about putting the work in to be able to do that."

Some understandably assumed that Beckham would be rocking his familiar No. 13 jersey after the Giants waived 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt. However, Hyatt returned to the practice squad, so Beckham was still wearing No. 3 on the final day of August. 

"I think we all know what that means to me, and there definitely will be some conversations," Beckham said about reclaiming the Giants' No. 13 jersey. "I'll just say we'll see what happens. But like I said, it would be an honor and a privilege to put that back on." 

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Beckham will almost certainly be wearing No. 13 when the Giants open the regular season with a home "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the
Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
