Cowboys' Caleb Downs could have a historic first season in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys are heading into a new season with one of the top draft picks of the crop in safety Caleb Downs. Expectations are obviously high for Downs, and having an elite safety could help this team go a long way this season.

Dallas snagged Downs with the No. 11 overall pick in the draft, and he's expected to take on a significant role with the team early on. It's a lot of pressure for a rookie, but if anyone can handle it, Downs can.

Now, Downs is getting a glowing projection that Jerry Jones will like.

In a feature for CBS Sports released on Monday, Douglas Clawson names one bold prediction for each NFL team.

His bold prediction is that Downs has an "All-Pro season, leads team in tackles, sacks and interceptions." That's a pretty cool projection for a rookie.

"The Cowboys first-round pick Caleb Downs will lead the team in tackles, sacks and interceptions while doing his best Kyle Hamilton (and Nick Emmanwori) impersonation, splitting his time between slot corner, box safety and high safety this year," Clawson states in the post. "The last player to lead a team in all three categories was Joey Porter Sr. for the 2002 Steelers."

So, Downs is already impressing NFL analysts and gearing up for what could be a historic season. If this projection comes to fruition, Jones and company will look like geniuses for snagging Downs when they did. Last season at Ohio State, the player notched 68 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions.
