Sophie Cunningham reacts to Enes Kanter Freedom's WNBA move

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham offered her first reaction to the controversy surrounding Enes Kanter Freedom’s attempts to enter the WNBA Draft.

Cunningham, who sparked controversy in July by saying she supported restricting transgender girls and women from girls’ and women’s sports, largely distanced herself from Kanter and Royce White, who have both sought entry into the WNBA after publicly identifying as female.

“I’m gonna let them do them,” Cunningham told Katie Barnes of ESPN on Friday. “I’m just focused on the Fever and on our sport. I think we have four more games left. I’m trying to just really dial in and keep the main thing the main thing.”

Cunningham has been an extremely polarizing figure around the WNBA since making her original comments. Kanter’s apparent support for Cunningham was allegedly what caused a scene when he attended an August WNBA game between the Fever and Chicago Sky. Kanter was ultimately ejected from the arena.

Cunningham, who was already a controversial figure, appears to be trying to turn the temperature down. As she said, the Fever have four regular season games remaining and are tied for first in the Eastern Conference with a 26-14 record.
