Steelers, Joey Porter Jr. saga takes new injury twist

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Joey Porter Jr. aren't on the same page about his contract situation.

However, contrary to most rumors and reports, that may not mean a trade is imminent.

Porter Jr.'s trade market has reportedly been radio silent, and while most speculate that his injured back is just a stunt to push for a new deal, it looks like he's actually hurt.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Porter Jr. is trying to work his way back on the field, and he'll pursue another medical opinion to try to suit up for Week 3 vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Porter’s back, according to a source, has ‘flared up when he’s tried to go full speed, and they haven’t been able to get it where it needs to be.’ Porter has been considering getting a second opinion on his back,” read the report.

While some argued that Porter might not play another snap for the organization, he's reportedly looking forward to getting back on the field.

“The Steelers might think, as one source described this week, that Porter is ‘fired up about playing against Cincinnati,’ but there is a business angle to this situation that cannot be ignored as the sides remain at an impasse in contract discussions,” Schefter added.

The Steelers don't negotiate new deals during the season, but with no takers for the former second-round pick, he doesn't have much of a choice other than to play.

And with Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Steelers will need their shutdown corner for this high-flying divisional matchup.
