'SNF' takeaways: Patrick Mahomes returns to form in Chiefs' thrilling OT win over Colts

Kelce had already turned back the clock with his longest reception (59 yards) since 2021 in the opener, but Sunday night was Mahomes' turn to join the fun and show that any concerns about his ACL injury should be put to rest.

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor played at an MVP level himself with 132 total yards and two TDs, becoming the first player in franchise history to have four TD runs in the first two games of a season, according to the NBC broadcast.

That said, Mahomes gets the nod due to his vintage performance in the clutch. This was not a straightforward win like many expected it to be for the Chiefs, but Mahomes handled the adversity like he always has and was especially clutch with a career-high 14 completions on 17 play-action attempts (h/t Next Gen Stats).

He connected with wide receiver Tyquan Thornton for multiple deep balls, but this one on a 3rd-and-12 in OT was perhaps his biggest one of the game, with the Colts set to get the ball with a chance to win if that pass is not caught.

The throws were on point all night as Mahomes showed that he is back with a vengeance and looks every bit like his usual self after Sunday night's performance.

After nearly winning the game in a wild turn of events on the previous Colts possession when WR Laquon Treadwell appeared to fumble the ball, officials ultimately overturned the call and said he was down by contact prior to the fumble. 

After the Colts settled for the field goal, the Chiefs had one final answer with this third-down conversion from Mahomes to running back Kenneth Walker III, which set the stage for the game-winning 40-yard field goal from Harrison Butker.
