Browns leading AFC North, but will they be on pumpkin watch soon?

The Cleveland Browns lead the AFC North. You read that correctly.

The Browns (4-2) upset the Baltimore Ravens (4-2) 13-10 at home on Sunday after kicker Andre Szmyt drilled a game-winning 37-yard field goal before time expired. The divisional win gives Cleveland the tiebreaker over Baltimore.

The Browns haven't been leading the AFC North this late in the season since Week 10 of the 2014 season, when pop star Harry Styles was still in One Direction. The British pop group didn't disband until 2016.

It's great for Cleveland that it's now leading the division. But will the Browns remain atop it for the rest of the season?

Why the Browns may be pretenders

Yes, the Browns beat the Ravens, but they didn't beat them with star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who missed Sunday's game because of an ankle issue. That shouldn't necessarily put an asterisk next to Cleveland's victory, but let's not pretend it didn't matter.

Ravens backup QB Tyler "Snoop" Huntley made his second straight start on Sunday and struggled to move the ball. The QB went 19-of-31 passing for 165 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 28 yards on five carries. For context, Jackson has averaged 241.8 passing yards and 36 rushing yards per game this season.

The Browns also have a solid defense. Entering Week 6, the unit was tied 14th in the league in points allowed (22.4 PPG). Their offense, though, remains highly questionable.

Cleveland has now averaged a meager 12.5 PPG  over its past two games. And if the Browns didn't have a winning record, there would be more conversations about benching QB Deshaun Watson. The QB went 16-of-26 passing for 164 yards on Sunday, posting a lousy 22.8 QBR. And he has yet to throw for 300 yards in a game this season.

The Browns may keep rolling in Week 7 when they face the 1-5 Tennessee Titans. After that, Cleveland's wheels may fall off. Yes, the team is winning, but with a defense still unproven against elite QBs and a slumping offense, it may be only a matter of time before it loses its divisional lead.
