Giants' John Harbaugh has one thing going for him despite recent slump

The New York Giants dropped their Week 6 game to the New Orleans Saints, 34-27, and they were down by so much for a while that they even brought in backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy to get his first taste of life on the field as a Giants player.

While McCarthy helped the team make a comeback in the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough, and they lost. But new head coach John Harbaugh still has something to smile about because this team is still No. 1 in the NFC East. Plus, he's making this happen without having franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart on the field.

On Tuesday, Garrett Podell of CBS Sports released a piece following the NFL's Week 6 games, grading all of the league's first-year head coaches. For Harbaugh, he gives him a firm "B-" grade. Frankly, not having Dart in the mix is huge, so a "B-" seems a bit harsh, but that's Podell's take.

John Harbaugh is part of a division where misery apparently loves company

Harbaugh has one big thing going for him, even when he's losing games: the NFC East is struggling. That's something Podell points out.

In the piece, he says that "fortunately for Harbaugh, the rest of the NFC East has no desire to climb up the standings with the entire division going winless two weeks in a row."

The Giants were hotter going into Week 5 with a 3-1 record, but not having Dart and star edge rusher Brian Burns is catching up with them. Still, there's a lot of season left, so don't count Harbaugh and the Giants out yet. Next, the team takes on the Houston Texans on Sunday.
