Chargers OC Mike McDaniel reveals upcoming change in search of spark for lifeless offense

The Los Angeles Chargers were expected to reach new heights on offense with Mike McDaniel locked in as the new offensive coordinator. Instead, the team is currently 0-7 and Justin Herbert looks like one of the worst quarterbacks in football.

This is one of the more shocking seasons for any team in recent NFL history and McDaniel is seeking some sort of success not just to spark his team, but to keep his job as well.

He spoke to the media Thursday and revealed an upcoming change he plans to make Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Chargers OC Mike McDaniel making a notable change

The coordinator is leaving the sidelines and heading to the booth as he looks to help Herbert get back to even an average level of play.

Nothing has gone right for the Chargers offense through seven games, so McDaniel is heading up to the coaching box in order to see the entire field throughout the game.

His full response notes how he is also comfortable making this move because he trusts the rest of his offensive coaching staff to handle things down on the field.

Any change will be welcomed by Chargers fans for a team averaging 14.1 points per game. Herbert is last among qualified quarterbacks in QBR at 32.6, putting him well below an average mark of 50. For context, Daniel Jones is next above Herbert with a QBR of 39.4.

The most points the Chargers have scored in a game this year is 23, and the team has failed to eclipse nine points in a game since Week 5.

A move to the booth may not magically solve things for this offense, but McDaniel and the rest of the coaching staff seem to be out of other options as they remain on the hot seat.
