A Fans Guide to the Reno Rodeo
© Robert Smith/Pawhuska Journal-Capital / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Reno Rodeo is about to kickoff June 21 in Reno, Nevada.  The event is a "must stop" for those who are paving their way to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, December 2024.

Reno will be packed with hot rodeo action and more than 140,000 fans.  With all of the added money and entry fees, the contestants will be vying for more than $800,000 over the course of the rodeo.

Reno is what is called an "average" rodeo but that has nothing to do with the caliber of competition you will see.  The "average" is how contestants move on to the finals the last day of competition.

Each person who enters will compete two times in what are called "long gos" with the two times or scores added together to make up the "average."  The top 12 contestants with the lowest combined times or the highest total scores will advance to the final day.

Reno is the kickoff to the major summer run that cowboys and cowgirls go on in hopes of making it into the top 15 of the World Standings.  Following Reno, cowboys and cowgirls begin what is referred to as "Cowboy Christmas" where it isn't uncommon for contestants to be flying across the country to make as many rodeos as possible.

Fans can be assured that the top cowboys and cowgirls will be making their way through Reno over the coming days to see who will be the champion.

If you are a subscriber to The Cowboy Channel or The Cowboy Channel + App, you can watch the performances live every night at 10 p.m. ET starting June 21 and going through June 29.
