David Gravette has been spending the last few years scouring the country in search of "America's worst skateparks" because, well...why not? There are some serious eye sores out there! To be fair, though, some (if not most) of them typically end up looking pretty fun, but this concrete catastrophe—in beautiful Hawaii, of all places—just might take the cake. Who's responsible for this? Take a look:
For those as curious as I was, here's a little backstory from Bronson:
"Back in April, we asked America to submit their worst skateparks across the country for David Gravette to skate. Now, David is back with another installment of the Worst Skatepark Ever, and he's taking on America's absolute worst skatepark located in Oahu, Hawaii submitted by Kevin Wilrig!"
The irony is that these dudes actually end up having a super solid session on this glorious chunk of junk. Honestly, that double grind he does on the deck railing is actually insane! But let's try and break down a few of the obvious problems here—obviously, there's no run up. If you want to skate this thing, it's going to take some serious effort.
Next, it's built more like a bank-to-barrier than a quarter pipe—that transition is super questionable about halfway up. When a spot looks this hard to skate, actually skating it in person is usually 10x harder. If not more. And like David mentions, the cracks in the ground are probably the least of your worries, but they're there.
Also, I mean...it looks like they're in Barstow or something—somewhere hot, dry and definitely not tropical. Are we sure that's Hawaii? Anyways, the list unfortunately goes on. Hey, I'm not complaining! Just stating the obvious.
I'll just end it with Gravette's clever quote: "If heaven is a halfpipe, this is hell."
And with that, the curtain is closed. I can't even imagine what cringe-worthy concrete creation David will uncover next. But I'm ready. Keep 'em coming!
