A skier paid perhaps the ultimate tribute to the late and legendary Shane McConkey earlier this month.

Professional wingsuit pilot and BASE jumper Kasey English ski BASE jumped Lover's Leap, the iconic cliff in Strawberry, California, just outside of Lake Tahoe. The death-defying stunt not only paid tribute to McConkey but also replicated one of his first-ever ski BASE jumps.

English shared POV footage of his jump, noting that he was inspired by watching McConkey's segment in the 2007 MSP film, Seven Sunny Days. If we're being totally honest, it was this fact that really caught my attention (not the dude jumping off a cliff on skis for whatever reason...).

I, too, watched Seven Sunny Days probably a hundred times growing up (if I'm still growing up... it's at least an annual feature) and did not recognize this cliff when I watched the video. I actually went back and watched McConkey's segment to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The segment in question is legendary in its own right. McConkey recreated the chase scene from the James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, complete with his wife, Sherry McConkey, as a Bond Girl. The stunt for the movie became a full production in itself, sending Roger Moore's stuntman, Rick Sylvester, all the way to Baffin Island to film the jump.

But how is this related to McConkey? According to footage from the 2013 MSP film, McConkey, his forays into ski BASE jumping were inspired by the Bond scene.

In 2003, McConkey made his way up to Lover's Leap, built a jump, and completed his first successful ski BASE jump. Tap or click below to watch.

English's recent jump was from the very same spot, although he referenced the Seven Sunny Days segment, which was not filmed at Lover's Leap. The segment was actually filmed in Norway, where some of the crew returned over the summer to film a wingsuit BASE Segment for the same film. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth a watch.

Also if you haven't seen Seven Sunny Days, drop everything!

I could spray about how much I love this movie forever, and how many hallmark ski culture moments came out of it.

In case you needed convincing, here's the McConkey/Bond segment too:
