2026/27 Premier League Team of the Season PREDICTION
REUTERS

Today, we’ll attempt to complete an impossible task. We can’t tell the future – but we can certainly try. Who will make it into the 2026/27 Premier League team of the season?

With just under a week to go before the campaign kicks off, let’s take a look at who could possibly make it into the best XI of the upcoming season.

We’ll come back to this when the footballing year is over and see how we did. We’ve picked players from teams such Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to feature in the team – do you agree with our choices?

GK: David Raya

This feels like the safest pick we could go for. Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, it’s hard to see any shot-stopper in the world letting in fewer goals than David Raya this season.

RB: Pedro Porro

Coming off the back of a World Cup-winning campaign with Spain in the summer, Pedro Porro will be bursting with confidence upon his return to Tottenham . Roberto De Zerbi seems to know how to get the best out of him – if Spurs have a strong season, as we’re expecting them to, Porro could certainly be amongst the league’s best full-backs.

CB: Maxence Lacroix

Maxence Lacroix was an inspired pickup for Chelsea. The perfect centre-back to slot into Xabi Alonso’s system, he’ll be the star of the show at the back for the Blues. Of course, we’ll have to see how they get on as a team, but they should put forth a much-improved effort this season.

CB: Marcos Senesi

With Cristian Romero looking likely to leave Spurs, Marcos Senesi is primed to fill the hole that he’ll leave behind. Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven will probably battle over the left-sided centre-back role, but the right-sided centre half will end up being Senesi more often than not. A battling defender, he’ll have plenty of time to shine for the Lilywhites.

LB: Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal’s rock-solid backline might erode a little with William Saliba being out injured, but Riccardo Calafiori could be set for a sensational season if he can stay fit. On his day, he is a fantastic player – with Myles Lewis-Skelly possibly leaving North London, he’ll be a shoo-in for the left-back position, even with Piero Hincapie waiting in the wings.

CM: Dominik Szoboszlai

We don’t think Liverpool will have a particularly great season this year, with far too many gaps in their squad, but Dominik Szoboszlai will have plenty of opportunities to impress. A superlatively talented midfielder, it’s important to remember that he is still approaching his prime.

CM: Martin Odegaard

Martin Odegaard was brilliant at the World Cup with Norway. Injuries hampered him a bit last season, but he could be on course for a spectacular campaign if he can stay fit. Of course, the acquisition of Bruno Guimaraes will give him competition, but as club captain, we’d expect him to keep his spot.

RW: Bukayo Saka

Again, injuries set Bukayo Saka back a bit in the previous campaign. If this does not occur this year, you can expect the England international to run rampant in the Premier League this season. Still only 24 years old, he is now one of the best wingers in the world.

AM: Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes enjoyed his best-ever Premier League campaign last season. He probably won’t replicate such impressive numbers this year, but he’ll definitely give it a good go. Whatever the case, he seems like a safe pick for an XI such as this.

LW: Antoine Semenyo

Now that Antoine Semenyo is settled in at Manchester City, he can realise his true potential. After such a successful season last year, we’re expecting him to do even better in the upcoming campaign.

ST: Erling Haaland

This is a bit of a cop-out answer, but you can see why we’ve picked him – who could possibly outscore Erling Haaland at the moment? An absolute shoo-in for the Premier League team of the season.
