€80m risk worth taking? Man Utd to outsmart PSG and Man City for French prodigy
Icon Sport

Manchester United want Monaco attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche amid interest from Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and several top Spanish clubs. Akliouche established himself as a regular player for the French club during the 2023-24 season and continued improving with experience.

Standing at 1.83 metres, Akliouche has the physical strength to combat opposition players in duels and compact spaces for Monaco. Furthermore, the 23-year-old’s impressive close control and dribbling skills help him navigate through tight spaces and retain possession to attack.

The Frenchman has astute tactical intelligence and uses his movements to create space and exploit the channels for his team. Akliouche also possesses impressive technical skills, capable of making successful dribbles and creating chances in the final third for Monaco.

The 23-year-old is also very hard-working and frequently helps his team, making recoveries and winning possession in the final third. The Frenchman has made 38 appearances for Monaco in all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing ten assists.

According to the French publication L’Equipe, Man United want Akliouche from Monaco amid interest from Paris SG and Man City. Monaco are demanding between €70 million and €80 million for their prolific young attacking midfielder as he consistently delivers performances.

Akliouche’s versatility is another bonus, as he has played regularly as a right-winger while possessing the ability to play centrally. New Man United boss Ruben Amorim needs a player of Akliouche’s impressive profile, as he fits the tactical requirement perfectly.

The squad that Amorim inherited from Erik ten Hag has failed to adjust to the new tactical demands at United. The former Sporting CP manager needs to make accurate signings during the summer amid the financial pressure that United faces.

The only obstacle for the Red Devils is the price tag of Akliouche, which could prove too much for them. A lot will also depend on how serious PSG and Man City are, as the two financial powerhouses could start a bidding war that United cannot afford.
