As Argentina faces a severe economic crisis, the government plans to put Lionel Messi’s face on the 10,000 pesos (€50) bill.

The gesture is a way to celebrate the national team’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. La Albiceleste won the World Cup last December by beating France in penalty kicks (4-2) to claim a third trophy in their nation’s history.

“Today I heard the President say in an interview that other banknote commonalities are being analyzed,” Silvina Batakis began in a radio interview on Tuesday. “One cannot hide the issue of inflation behind a bill, so I understand that it is something that is being discussed within the Executive Branch together with the Central Bank.

“Banco Nación makes an effort, but for that logistics it is good to have those bills … There I would play with something that has to do with the hearts of Argentines, which is a symbolic bill , that has to do with the World Cup, for example”. “I would totally make a [Lionel] Messi ticket.”

According to information from La Nacion, there are no plans yet to issue tickets of greater value. Therefore, it will be necessary to wait a little more before seeing La Pulga in the wallets.

It will be interesting to see if this eventually becomes a reality or it’s just the high of coming off winning the World Cup for Argentina. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt the country wants to honor Messi in some capacity. Murals and statues will pop up in Buenos Aires and across the country that will feature Messi.
