Manchester United’s goalkeeping department could undergo further changes this summer as Michael Carrick continues shaping his squad ahead of the new campaign.

The Red Devils appear well-stocked between the posts following Senne Lammens’ outstanding debut season, with the Belgian recently being named the Premier League Transfer of the Season after establishing himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, current backup Altay Bayindir is expected to leave Old Trafford, having attracted interest from Turkish side Besiktas in recent months.

With several players away at the World Cup, Carrick is also preparing to assess members of the squad who remain available for pre-season duty.

Andre Onana returns to Manchester United

One of those players is Andre Onana, who has officially returned to Manchester United following the conclusion of his loan spell with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper spent the season in Turkey after falling out of favour and enjoyed success during his temporary stay, helping Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup after a 2-1 victory over Konyaspor in last month’s final.

Onana’s loan agreement expired on Tuesday, meaning he has now reported back to United ahead of the summer schedule.

He is expected to be involved in the club’s early pre-season preparations and could feature in the pre-season clash against Wrexham as part of Carrick’s travelling squad.

However, despite his return, his long-term future appears far from secure.

Reports suggest Carrick does not currently see Andre Onana as part of his plans moving forward, with Lammens firmly established as the club’s number one option.

Trabzonspor are also believed to be keen on bringing the goalkeeper back, having reportedly submitted an official offer to both United and the player in an attempt to extend his stay.

Onana originally joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in a £43.8 million move under Erik ten Hag in 2023 and went on to make 102 appearances for the club before his loan departure.

With the World Cup meaning many first-team stars are unavailable, Onana may get one final opportunity to impress during pre-season, but all indications point towards another move being explored before the transfer window closes.
