Andreas Georgson joins Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Manchester United

Lillestrom manager Andreas Georgson is set to leave his current role to join Manchester United as part of Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff.

Georgson becomes a coach at United after just eight months in charge at Lillestrom, as confirmed by ManUtd.com.

He leaves the Swedish side sat eighth in the Eliteserien. Their next fixture takes place on Sunday but their search for a new manager begins now.

Reports in Norway have suggested United will pay around £280,000 to release Georgson from his contract.

The Swedish coach previously held the role as set-piece coach at Southampton, where he was appointed by Jason Wilcox, who has reportedly recommended him for the role at United. He also worked at Brentford under Thomas Frank and at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.

United have already made a number of changes to their coaching team this summer, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy appointed as assistant managers and Jelle ten Rouwelaar taking over as goalkeeping coach.

Benni McCarthy, Mitchell van der Gaag and Richard Hartis have all left United this summer.
