Aston Villa may be in for an exciting summer transfer window.
Indeed, after winning the Europa League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League, the Villans may well be in a position to strengthen further this summer.
Villa have a number of areas that need addressing this summer, and according to The Athletic, Unai Emery’s side are already eyeing up one exciting signing.
According to The Athletic, Karim Adeyemi is a player Aston Villa are keen on heading into the summer.
Aston Villa’s interest in Karim Adeyemi makes sense if they are looking to add real pace and directness to their attack.
The Borussia Dortmund forward has been linked with Villa before, and his profile fits what Unai Emery’s squad could use.
Adeyemi is quick, explosive and capable of playing across the front line. He is the type of wide player who can stretch teams, attack space and give Villa a different threat in transition.
Interestingly, Villa have been down this sort of avenue before in terms of signing talented Borussia Dortmund attackers – Donyell Malen didn’t quite have the impact he would have wanted at Villa Park, and the same can be said for Jadon Sancho.
However, this move may well help Sancho as he’s been linked with a transfer back to Dortmund, and Adeyemi’s departure would open that spot up in the squad.
The Athletic also report that Aston Villa sources have indicated that Harry Wilson is not a definite signing for Villa at this stage.
Wilson has been strongly linked to Villa, but sources aren’t considering this move a formality at this point.
The key detail is his role. Wilson would not arrive as a classic ‘fast winger’. If Villa did move for him, he would be viewed more as a number 10 or creative attacking midfielder.
That matters when comparing him to Adeyemi.
Wilson is clever, technical and capable of producing moments of quality, but he does not tick the same pace box. Adeyemi does. If Villa want someone to run in behind and add speed to the front line, the Dortmund forward is the more obvious target.
It will be interesting to see what Villa do as we head into an important summer transfer window.
