Barcelona want Marcus Rashford as Manchester United push to sell the players who are not part of Ruben Amorim’s plan. United lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur, causing a big financial repercussion, forcing them to prioritise sales.
The loss of next season’s Champions League spot takes away a big source of revenue for United amid poor finances. United are also facing a lot of trouble backing Amorim during the summer window, as he needs a squad overhaul.
The current squad has failed to fulfil the tactical demands of Amorim, struggling to adjust to his style of play. Former manager Erik ten Hag bought most of these players but was sacked during the middle of the current campaign.
The Red Devils are currently 16th in the Premier League table after 37 games, securing only 39 points so far. United are counting on the healthy sale of many of their surplus players to avoid selling a few key players.
However, there is a chance that they will incur a lot of losses when it comes to recently bought players. Many of the Ten Hag signings came for a massive price tag but suffered with inconsistencies, dropping their valuation significantly.
Meanwhile, Amorim’s mid-season arrival came with a swift loan departure for Rashford during the January transfer window to Aston Villa. Rashford had struggled with inconsistency, which he failed to overcome despite United and the fans’ patience with their academy player.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona want Rashford from United, who have set a £40m asking price for the 27-year-old attacker. Rashford showed a glimpse of consistency at Villa until suffering an injury, ruling him out for the remaining season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have enjoyed a successful season but plans to strengthen their attack even further with a left-winger. However, they have also struggled financially and could push for more negotiation, considering Rashford’s massive wages are also a big factor. Nevertheless, United have to sell their surplus quickly and shift their focus to recruiting players who suit Amorim’s tactical profile.
