Barcelona’s interest in Marcus Rashford seems to have taken another turn, with fresh reports pointing to a new transfer twist involving the Manchester United forward.
Rashford has been linked to Barcelona lately, and the 27-year-old has dropped hints about wanting a move to the Camp Nou. Speaking after England’s group stage match against Spain, Rashford said: “We’re talking about one of the greatest clubs in the world. I’ve been watching them since I was a child.”
The forward has been training on his own at Carrington since returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa.
His loan stint with Villa ended on 30th June, and the club decided against making his stay permanent.
Since then, Rashford has returned to Old Trafford but doesn’t appear to be in Ruben Amorim’s plans for next season.
He isn’t expected to be part of United’s pre-season tour and is widely expected to leave the club before the window closes.
Marcus Rashford is drawing interest from more than just Barcelona, with clubs in Saudi Arabia and even Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce linked to the forward.
But the general feeling is that the Manchester United forward has his heart set on a move to Camp Nou and is holding out for Barcelona to come in for him.
According to CaughtOffside, sporting director Deco isn’t fully convinced about signing the England international due to the financial impact it could have on Barcelona.
Rashford’s hefty wages at United are seen as a major hurdle for a club already working hard to manage its wage bill.
The report goes on to say that Rashford is valued at around €60m, though United are said to be looking for £40m.
Despite what he could add to their attack, concerns over his fit within the club’s structure have reportedly slowed any progress.
CaughtOffside have suggested that if Barcelona find Marcus Rashford out of reach this summer, they may turn their attention to AC Milan and Portugal winger Rafael Leao instead.
The outlet added that Rashford’s ongoing situation with Barcelona also has both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain keeping eyes on it from the ‘background.’
It has been reported that Chelsea and PSG are ‘monitoring the situation closely’ and could swoop in for Rashford if Barcelona fail to land the England forward.
Rashford is under contract with United until 2028, and during his career he has scored 138 goals while providing 77 assists across 426 appearances in all competitions.
