
Cape Verde will be one of the debutant nations to play at a World Cup this summer, and the African side will start preparing for the tournament with a friendly match against Serbia.
Cape Verde will play Serbia at the Estadio do Restelo in Lisbon, Portugal. The match will be a big test for Cape Verde, with Serbia having experience at World Cups in the past.
Serbia did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup after missing out due to finishing third in their UEFA World Cup qualifier group.
In March, Cape Verde participated in the FIFA Series, where they played friendlies against Chile and Finland. In their previous match, Cape Verde drew 1-1 with Finland but then defeated them 4-2 on penalties.
Kevin Pires scored for Cape Verde in regular time, and Ryan Mendes scored the winning penalty goal for the African side.
Cape Verde also played Chile in March, but they lost the match 4-2. Dailon Rocha Livramento and Sidny Lopes Cabral scored the goals for Cape Verde against Chile.
