Real Madrid’s current season is reaching a difficult conclusion, as they sit 2nd in La Liga with a significant 11-point gap behind leaders FC Barcelona.
Their European campaign ended recently in the Champions League Quarter-finals, following a 6–4 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in April.
With a trophyless season becoming an unavoidable reality, Real Madrid's big stars, most notably Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, among others, are finding themselves under intense scrutiny.
Already grappling with a left leg injury, Kylian Mbappe particularly faces mounting pressure as reports of internal friction and a leadership crisis begin to emerge from the Real Madrid camp.
Juanma Castaño, director of ‘El Partidazo’ reported on April 28 that there is internal disappointment at the club regarding Mbappé.
He stated that "behind closed doors, Real Madrid believe Mbappe is not the leader they expected," neither on the pitch nor in the dressing room.
“He is not a leader in the locker room or on the field for the rest of the players,” he claimed.
Castaño also questioned the future of the squad's structure, specifically whether Real Madrid can continue with both Vinicius Junior and Mbappe simultaneously.
"Mbappé no es el líder que pensaban, ni en el campo ni en el vestuario".

He noted that the club hoped Mbappe would lead so that Vinícius, who needs constant "protection" on the field, wouldn't have to carry that burden.
Castaño was also critical earlier of Alvaro Arbeloa following the mid-season departure of Xabi Alonso, specifically questioning Arbeloa's treatment of veteran Dani Carvajal and the decision to grant the squad two days of rest during a perceived crisis.
